Angelo Franco is a lifelong artist, having been painting for more than fifty years. His work has been collected and shown in various galleries over the years, predominately as an oil painter, but he has also worked in pastels, watercolor, charcoal, ink, and gauche, as well as clay, plaster and granite for sculptural works.
He studied fine art at the Portland Fine Art School in Maine, before accepting a full four year merit scholarship at The Art Students League of New York from 1976 to1980. His work was selected and is included in their permanent collection.
“Each new painting is a serious intuitive search for the essence of a subject. I try to convey the feeling and mood with shapes and bold, contrasting colors, whether the subject is still life, landscape, abstract, or figurative. I use vibrant colors, layered and super- imposed with the appearance of a random selection of shapes over the surface. Color is often independent of form. The boundaries between subject, surface and form dissolve. I apply the precepts of color theory in a manner reminiscent of pointillism, with a contemporary twist of computer pixilation. And I am still evolving more abstractly now, as I continue this art journey. “
