Lifts are among the more spectacular elements of pairs skating. A basic lift is the overhead lift, in which the man raises his partner off the ice and balances her overhead as he moves across the ice. Russian skaters, Sergei Grinkov and Ekaterina Gordeeva were famous for the athleticism and romanticism inherent in their performance of the overhead lift.
